I am a hobbyist photographer that's just starting out. I got my very first DSLR (Canon) as an anniversary present from my husband in July 2016. Before that I had a Panasonic Lumix GX8 and GX7. Before that I had a good old Olympus sport point and shoot. I've never taken a photography class but I'm learning through magazines (Practical Photography and Digital Photographer), books, Kelbyone.com, some youtube videos, and just talking to people.
